Golf Breaks in the Scottish Borders: Stay & Play Packages at The County Hotel Selkirk

Golf breaks in the Scottish Borders at County Hotel Selkirk with nearby golf courses and scenic Borders countryside
Golf Breaks in selkirk

Looking for golf breaks in the Scottish Borders? Selkirk is one of the best bases you’ll find — a handful of genuinely different courses within a short drive of each other, and a historic coaching inn on the High Street with a warm bar, hearty food, and a bed waiting at the end of your round.

We’ve put together stay-and-play packages with four of the courses on our doorstep, so you can book your golf and your room in one place — and save the commission you’d otherwise hand to a booking site.

Why Selkirk Is a Golf Base Worth Choosing

The Scottish Borders doesn’t get the attention that St Andrews or the Highlands do, and that’s part of the appeal — quieter courses, friendly clubhouses, and green fees that won’t rival a links-golf mortgage payment. From The County Hotel, you’re within easy reach of heathland, parkland, and everything in between, all inside about a 20-minute drive.

Golf Breaks Scottish Borders: The Courses on Our Doorstep

Selkirk Golf Club — a nine-hole heathland course laid out on Selkirk Hill in 1924 by the noted architect Willie Park Jr. It’s a five-minute drive (or a stiff walk) from the hotel, with a genuinely testing layout — heather, gorse, and sharp elevation changes give you panoramic views over the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys in exchange for some wayward drives. Played off two tees, it stretches to a full 18-hole round.

Torwoodlee Golf Club — a parkland course near Galashiels, a short drive from Selkirk, offering a gentler test for golfers who want a more traditional round without sacrificing scenery.

Woll Golf Club — an 18-hole par-70 parkland course on the New Woll Estate between Hawick and Selkirk, regularly rated among the best-maintained courses in the Borders, with a strong clubhouse restaurant if you want to make a full day of it.

Galashiels Golf Club — another Borders parkland favourite, a little further afield but well worth the drive for golfers keen to play more than one course during their stay.

Stay & Play: Book Direct and Save

Stay & Play golf in selkirk

We’ve built simple stay-and-play packages around each of these courses — your room plus your round, booked together, direct with us:

You can see all four side by side on our Golf page. Booking direct means no third-party commission baked into your rate, and it means we know you’re here for golf — so we can point you toward tee times, transport, and the best spot in the bar for a pint after your round.

Make a Weekend of It

Selkirk itself is worth the extra day. After your round, the High Street is a two-minute walk from the clubhouse gates at Selkirk Golf Club, and our kitchen serves Scottish and Mediterranean-leaning dishes built for exactly this kind of appetite. If you’re bringing a group, ask us about arranging tables for a full outing — we regularly host golf societies and can help with transport between courses if you’re playing more than one during your stay. For more ideas on filling out your trip, have a look at our other Scottish Borders guides.
